Martin and Emer would love to welcome you into their piece of Heaven, the land of the Mullicháins, where they have found peace. No need for your old Guru just a bit of real Ireland.
What a spot right on the Banks of the river Barrow where you are sitting with your cup of coffee watching the grey Heron standing stony still, perched on the weir waiting with infinite patience. Not a flicker in his eye unaware of anyone looking. In fact not giving a damn. He is in his own world and now at last so are you. Fresh Scones with the morning coffee and a read of the paper, smoked salmon and a glass wine for the lunch and a stroll along the river bank not a care in the world, this is the good life.
The Mullicháin Café is a tastefully restored 18th century canal storehouse which was used to store grain and all kinds of goods that were transported on the canal line from 1760. Nestled in the Barrow valley and right off the beaten track St Mullins or Badger Wood is a charming bit of old world Ireland. Two great artisans John Broughal and John O’Dwyer with their “Man Friday” Martin and the great designer Emer worked to transform a sadly derelict building into a show piece of times gone by. Great coffee, fantastic atmosphere and chat to beat the band, what more can you ask for?
Upstairs, in the Loft, we have paintings by local artists and loads of books on Mythology, Irish history and you may even get a feel for the The Sheerie and The Pooka or hear the wail of the Banshee. We have a hurley dug up from the Marshes that could only have belong to a ten foot tall Mullicháin!!!!!!!
